A few months ago when I Googled my name (who doesn’t, right?). I found…Nothing….well, at least nothing that had to do with me. In the results I found a 70 year old Nicaraguan musician. This guy populated several pages of the google results. Then I thought I would put my name with a word that identifies me from this artits, but I kept finding random people with my same name, regardless of the word I associated with it.
I am suffering the John smith Syndrome (so many, its hard to identify one from, the others). Enter Social Media, by creating an online presence on several useful services (networking, microblogging, blogging, etc.) you can create, grow and manage your online identity, and if you publish enough content, you will be able to eventually own the identity of your name on search results. It may be time-consuming at first, but check out these stats for motivation:

Among the web there are many tools there can be used to help you build your identity online, including social networks, blogging and micro-blogging services, and social media aggregators. It is important that you use these services to share and publish content that you want associated with your personal brand and maintain a consistent personal identity across all the web.
